Fitted the hop lever to my Enfield No 4 project. Then I realised I have lost the part which holds the spring guide in place when the gun is cocked! It must have fallen out of the trigger mech while I was working on it. :slap:

Still, it's in the house somewhere, it will hopefully turn up this weekend.

Found it! :good:

Unfortunately I have put it together and it chronos at a lousy 270 fps. :( Can't really figure out why, it's a stock AGM MP001. It has been in bits for ages so I wonder if maybe the seal around the hop isn't as good as it could be or the piston head o-ring dried out.

It's probably both Ranj! Put some silicone grease around the o ring and wrap a couple of layers of ptfe tape around the hop rubber where it joins the barrel and also on the threads of the cylinder head. It's also worth giving the bolt and extra push forward after you cock the gun, as it only needs to be a millimetre or two off and you lose your airseal.

Spent a few hours modifying a pinion gear removal tool plate with the milling machine and did some laser cut medal stands.

today I....

found out where the annoying hissing sound that I've heard in my hallway for the past 2 weeks is coming from.

From the water pipe....before the stopcock...under the floor...right where you can't get to it. My under-floor cavity now looks like a place where Gollum would feel right at home

You've got access to a laser cutter?
Fancy making me up two new replacement receiver plates in 2mm alli'/1mm steel for my Vickers? <cheeky/>

I would in a flash, but it's not powerful enough to do metals. :(

Hehe, no problems mate, I was just being a cheeky git anyways! I think I've found a fabricators down here in Oxford who'll mill 'em out for me :good:

So, Today I...

...removed the pockets from my new 39patt BD blouse, re-machine-stitched them with correct thread tension (original stitching quality was a bit poor) and with thread that was a better original colour match, and re-attached them.

And while I had the ol' sewing machine out, I converted a late '60s West German browny-green serge FS cap (WW2 German pattern) into a looky-likey British FS cap.

Also prepared my 'Middlesex' and '3rd Div' insignia ready to be hand sewn on sometime tomorrow.

Today I learnt to HATE BeVo insignia.

Ah, the lesson many of us have learned the hard way! :slap: It really is a pain in the arse, isn't it?

BeVo is the spawn of the devil. Urgh, just remembered, got an M42 tunic that needs BeVo insignia on it

*edit*

http://www.panzergrenadier.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=6495&hilit=BeVo - useful pic on the bottom of that thread showing how it was cut and folded back on itself.

And now you are a Mann, my son! Yes, BeVo is such a pain to work with - but to my mind, nothing looks so authentic as BeVo Litzen. However, I have made some right dodgy messes of BeVo insignia in the past.

When it comes to Bevo, Gutermann HT2 Fabric Glue is your best friend! not to glue it to the tunic but to fold back and glue the edges of the Bevo before stiching it on. Eliminates any chance of it fraying and makes it as easy to sew onto the tunic as any Embroided insignia. I couldn't imagine doing a Bevo without it!

“I wanted to come to the Volga at a specific location at a specific city. By chance it carries the name of Stalin himself. So don’t think I marched there for this reason – it could carry another name – but because there is a very important goal... this goal I wanted to take – and you know – we are very modest, we have it already."
Adolf Hitler, November 1942

"Comrades, Red Army men, commanders and political workers, men and women guerrillas! It is on your perseverance, staunchness, fighting skill and readiness to discharge your duty to the country that the defeat of the German-fascist army and the liberation of the Soviet land from the Hitlerite invaders depend! We can and must clear the Soviet land of Hitlerite vermin."

Thats why I'm just going to let my Girlfriend play wround with the new'ish sowing machine that she bought for £10, you have to turn a handle to make the working parts move, don't know the name of it but will look tomorow when I get home, If she really loves me then she will sow all my badges on for me :giggle:

"Will you stop talking about the war!!"
"What, you started it!"
"We did NOT start it!"
"Yes you did, you invaded Poland..."

I've got one of those - what did you do to make it looky-likey?

I sewed a ring of stich around the bottom edge to make it look as though it was the 'end' of the hat strap rather than continuing and folding under as the German style does). I then folded down the tops of the two 'lips' to flat edges (tuck them over and inside) and sewn down along the edge to hold them in place (I actually went all the way around the top edge to make it look more genuine and blend it in better). Attach two small brass GS buttons to the front, and two black hook'n'eye fastener hooks to the top corner edge of the new flat-edged 'lips' to complete!
Gah, I'll try and post some pics up to better show what I did.
